Play feature spotlight. Log crawl tunnel. Encouraging imaginative exploration. This post shows a picture of a boy crawling out of a log tunnel in the grass. This work is made possible through funding from the Michigan Department of Health Human Services (MDHHS) through Healthy Community Zones Initiative, in partnership with: Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District, Sault Area Public Schools, and Chippewa Luce Mackinac Community Action Agency.

Designed to encourage discovery, movement, and imaginative play, the Log Crawl Tunnel adds a nature-inspired play experience to the Outdoor Discovery & Exploration Station at the Sault Early Learning Center.

Its realistic bark texture, hollowed log design, and hand-painted details help create opportunities for children to crawl, explore, and interact with the environment in creative ways. An embedded mouse hidden in the knothole adds an extra element of curiosity and discovery.

The Log Crawl Tunnel supports sensory exploration, motor planning, coordination, imaginative play, and social development while creating engaging opportunities for children of many ages and abilities to explore together.
